Description: Alpha Packaging is a manufacturer of plastic bottles for the nutritional, pharmaceutical, personal care and niche food and beverage markets. They were increasingly utilizing their Web site as a sales tool and recently had their Web site redesigned with added functionality, but were having issues with bugs, maintenance and a general lack of positive user experience.
Alpha’s marketing firm hired me to reevaluate Alpha’s site and make recommendations for improvements. The account manager and I met with Alpha's marketing and sales people to get firsthand input on problems, wants and needs. Our research resulted in a clear set of requirements and recommendations for improvements in several areas: the overall graphic design, site usability, detailed product descriptions and general packaging information. The sample ordering data schema was completely reworked allowing a product search tool, product kitting and the ability to query the data for various reports on sample orders. This new site is one of the best in the packaging market and represents Alpha as an industry leader.
Project was completed within budget and exceeded client expectations, not only improving the Web site, but also the relationship with the client.
Responsibilities: Led the discovery phase, planning phase and client interviews. Wrote the proposal and scope documentation. Outsourced and managed graphic design and PHP programming resources. Extended the design into HTML pages. Created the Flash intro and the Bottle Basics interactive feature.
